PRACTICE #13 – THE ONE OF FUTSAL

I love futsal, also known as indoor football. You play with a smaller ball that is a little heavier and does not bounce. It’s a much faster and dynamic than a regular match. Forces also the players to pass faster and trap the ball more accurately.

2014-04-07 17.15.39The practice was simple, 4 teams of 4 playing against each other. The goal was to score two goals in 10 minutes and the winning team would stay and a new team would come into the court. We had a VERY special guest, our Defensive Rock Katy Ni was here to help us out.

There was a team that was unbeatable and they stayed in the court for four matches in a row. The highlight was the Unbreakable Dutch, Tehillah! She was awesome! I love her bubbly personality always happy but at the same time super focused on the match.

There is no question that futsal is a very intense workout. I was completely exhausted after it, specially after the spring break. It was a nice way to get the girls geared up to our last match in the league against the German School. We have only more 15 days of this season and I want this season to be the Season to Rule them All. Our numbers are close to perfection and I can see in each of my Amazon Warriors the desire to keep improving and besting themselves. One more match to achieve League Perfection. I am sure we can do it. BELLATORUM INVICTUM!

TRYOUTS #2

2014-01-25 11.39.39Once more, a beautiful day to play the “jogo bonito”. Today was a simple tryout; a full length match. The girls played for 70 minutes with me alternating them in different positions so I could have an idea for the team. Bella (in the Dragons Cup swimming), Phoebe (SAT) and Greta still injured. It was good to see some nice dynamics between Alva, Hailey and Franziska. As a matter of a fact, it was amazing to see Franziska playing so at ease, specially after last season where she was injured for almost half of the season. Most of the players were able to play for the whole match. Tehillah even with a cold was able to score some goals and Suh-Young was extremely sore after the practice but everybody survived.

It will be so hard to pick the 12 players. For sure it’s the hardest selection I ever had in 4 years of SCIS. We have one more tryout before doing the final selection. The team roster will be published here on this site, Tuesday at 3PM. Good luck to you all.

First Tryout – Briefing

So we had our first tryout. Fairly interesting. We had basic drills for speed, ball control, passing and shooting. One of the highlights was the Bobinho, a drill where one player stays in the middle while other 3 or 4 players pass the ball around with one or two touches to it. If the player in the middle touches the ball, the player that passed the ball, goes to the middle and so on. Other interesting moment was the final scrimmage, where everybody was divided into 4 teams. Two teams played against each other for 2 minutes or one goal. Whoever won, stayed in the field and another team came in and so on. If no team scored in the 2 minutes, both teams were out.

I could notice that we have some great Freshmen players. It will be very hard to pick the 14 athletes for the Varsity Team. Next tryout will be this Wednesday at 4:30. Don’t forget to check the calendar online. If by any chance you cannot commit to it, let me know ahead of time.

See you Wednesday!
